Child's Hoodie Vest





This is a great children's vest for the Fall and Winter. Suitable for boys or girls. Adds a little extra warmth without adding a lot of bulk for those chilly winter days.


SIZE:
6–9 months (12 months, 24 months)
Finished Chest 25 (27, 29) in. (63.5 (68.5, 73.5) cm)
Length 12 1/2 (14 1/2, 16 1/2) in. (32 (37, 42) cm)

MATERIALS:

2 balls 3.50 oz./100 g (170 yd/156 m) worsted weight yarn
Crochet Hook Size J-10

GAUGE:

12 sts + 10 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in hdc. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.


BACK
Ch 38 (41, 44).
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 36 (39, 42) hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 7 (8 1/2, 10) in. (18 (21.5, 25.5) cm) from beg.
Shape Armhole
Next Row: Turn, sl st in first 3 sts, ch 2, hdc in next 30 (33, 36) sts, leave remaining sts unworked – 30 (33, 36) hdc.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc across; leave sl sts unworked.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep last row until piece measures 12 1/2 (14 1/2, 16 1/2) in. (32 (37, 42) cm) from beg.

LEFT FRONT
Ch 21 (23, 25).
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 19 (21, 23) hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 7 (8 1/2, 10) in. (18 (21.5, 25.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Armhole
Next Row (RS): Turn, sl st in first 3 sts, ch 2, hdc in each st across – 16 (18, 20) hdc.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc across; leave sl sts unworked.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep last row until piece measures 11 (13, 15) in. (28 (33, 38) cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Neck
Next Row (RS): Ch 2, turn, hdc in next 9 (11, 13) sts, sc in next st; leave remaining sts unworked – 10 (12, 14) sts.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Next Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next 8 (10, 12) sts, sc in next st; leave remaining st unworked – 9 (11, 13) sts.
Last Row: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.

HOOD
Ch 53.
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 51 hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) from beg. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing and lining up center st of Hood with center of Back neck, sew Hood around neck, easing to fit. Sew top seam of Hood. Sew side seams.
