GAUGE:
10.5 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm) in Seed Stitch. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
SEED STITCH (even number of stitches)
Row 1 *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * across.
Row 2 *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * across.Repeat Rows 1-2 for pattern.
SCARF
Cast on 16 stitches. Work in Seed Stitch until piece measures 4 inches from beginning.
Work Slit even in pattern on first 8 stitches for 3 ½ inches and place stitches on holder. Join yarn to remaining 8 stitches and work even for 3½ inches, then work across all 16 stitches.
Continue in pattern until scarf measures 30 inches from beginning. Bind off all stitches. Weave in ends.
